Drea Cornejo is an award-winning video journalist for The Washington Post, where she experiments with different forms of storytelling, like short-documentaries, narrated explainers and vertical video. Prior to joining the Post, she worked as a visual journalist for The Gainesville Sun while earning a B.S. in journalism from the University of Florida.

She has covered a wide-array of stories over the years, ranging from natural disasters to LGBTQ+ issues and the top political stories of the day. Currently, she is embedded with the Health & Science desk, where she strives to help tell stories that use empathy at its forefront.

Drea’s work has been recognized by The White House News Photographers Association, the Society of Features Journalism Awards, and the George Polk Awards, among others. Most recently, she placed first in Continuing News and Issue Reporting, first in Documentary or Series and first in Explainer for the 2024 WHNPA Eyes of History Awards. Just a few years earlier, the WHNPA recognized her as the Multimedia Journalist of the Year.
